Life is one big roll coaster ride and sometimes it feels as though you are falling and there is no hope. Truth be told, sports, business and life is one big roller coaster ride and once you have set something in motion, there will be ups and downs and a whole lot of twirling in between. Your fear causes you to have an immediate flight or fright response. The problem is that you are strapped down and you have to wait out the ride with no turning back. The funny thing with life is that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel but fear causes us not to be able to comprehend the end of this rollercoaster ride. Experienced roller coaster riders know exactly what to expect, how long the ride is going to be, where the scary part is and where the incredibly exhilarating bouts are. One thing these experienced riders know for sure is that there is an end to the ride and a start to a new one.
I had the privilege of attending the pre-launch of the success summit at the elegant Scoobs book store at Monte Casino. I had a taste of what’s to come from an amazing all star line up from speakers from around the world speaking on Success. Today and tomorrow will see international stars like Sir Richard Branson, Greg Secker, Dr John Demartini, South African Robin Banks, Marlin Smith, Robert Allen and Andy Harrington to name a few.
What do these gurus have to do with sport? Probably nothing, but the last time I checked, every athlete is looking for success, looking to turn pro, looking to make more fame, glory and money through sport and looking for the competitive edge. As a sportsman you are your business and your mind is the entrepreneur. These speakers will share how they became successful in their respective fields and also share with you a road map on how to take action to become successful.
What can these monster millionaire gurus teach you? Sir Richard Branson has taught the world that you don’t have to be a stuck up billionaire snob, your journey to success can be a road filled with fun and great adventures. “All work and no play” is not what Sir Richard stands for and if more people were like him, how fun and successful would the world be? In sports, life is about balance, being dedicated to your craft and goals and making sure your philosophy is work hard and play hard or you will burn out.
Proudly South Africa Robin Banks believes that, “What you have to think, you will eventually become. No matter what your state, condition or situations, when you wake up in the morning you have the power to think positive thoughts and dream of greatness.” Nelson Mandela grandfather to the nation, had two choices in prison; one of revenge and destruction or one of a peace, unity and freedom for all. No matter what situation Madiba found himself in, he chose to think thoughts that would one day change a nation and it did, and we are ever grateful for him and his powerful thoughts. If the great Madiba could do it, why can’t you be successful in your sport?
I asked motivational speaker Marlin Smith who produced the popular “Motivational Mondays” television series in South Africa for a quote for sportsmen in South Africa and he said, “There is greatness within you! Make the most of today because what you do today will dictate where you will be tomorrow. Live with purpose”
Success is universal but you need the tools to play the game. These motivational speeches brought together by Greg Secker will equip you with mental tools to take action. Once you have great thoughts, take action and let the motion take you on a fun filled adventure, with twirls, swirls but just know and have faith everything will be just fine.
